"The one who lives on does so due to circumstance." [He waves a hand.] Things are rarely, if ever, about fortune or miracles. It's always about probability, the order of operations, and the fact that things exist and we know they exist because of the people who exist to observe them. There are multiple timelines where things maybe wouldn't be going so well, but we don't know about them because there aren't people around to tell us.

[...on the contrary.] But at the same time, we know at least one exists where it didn't go well because all of those people are dead and we've been told by someone who observed it.
