Yeah. I didn't find out until Thursday and it was only after I talked to Kagachi. I think that ws why Izuminokami mentioned it in my note. The demon holding Illumi hostage apparently was pissed.
What I find interesting is that our two demon friends weren't aware of each other.
Mm... I wonder why? Just to lose to our side in general? They don't exactly seem to have any real allegiance or even fondness toward each other, after all.
[The thought that Kanesada really was killed out of vengeance though... Oof. At least Wei Wuxian, knowing what he knows, feels like Kanesada would rather die having done something than live doing nothing at all.]
We don't know how Polly summoned so many of them, and we don't know if these other demons are even new. Maybe they've been here all along and are coming back to take their territory.
[But yeah. Not comfortable, is it?] Izuminokami's death is avenged as of tomorrow, and yet...it still happened just because we fought back. I haven't gone back to speak to the demon and I don't plan to. Have you?
Not really a hydra in the sense of "more appear once you cut one down", then? If they've been here this whole time, anyway.
[Who even knows how these damn demons work anymore!! He sure doesn't!! But he makes a little aimless humming noise in response to that. Knowing that they're met with tooth and nail in turn isn't surprising, but it still leaves a sour taste after an earlier victory. Anyway, demons! Much lighter topic!]
I did, yes. Quite different from the one that borrowed miss Monika's body, I'd say.
[A soft little neutral hum! Life sure is hard when nothing is straightforward.
BUT BACK TO LLEMON.]
Well, it wasn't happy about being up for exorcism, that's for sure. Said it'd snap the other demon's head off of its body if it had the chance! Like a PEZ dispenser.
[He still has no idea what that means because he keeps saying it so confidently that people just assume he does know, god.]
Nope! Though it could have been lying about that, of course. I have a feeling it isn't just because of how upset it seemed, but then again, it isn't exactly on our side just because it's not on theirs.
[Especially if it apparently axed Kanesada for getting one of their own...]
All demons are free agents of chaos? [Tiredly.] It would make sense. If Polly just summoned a bunch of them without really knowing about what she was doing, we could've attracted a bunch of entities that wanted to outdo each other in the first place.
Well! From my experience, things like this don't tend to cooperate well at all. Temporary alliances might be possible, but otherwise... [A little shrug.] We can hope their penchant for turning on each other works in our favor, at least a little.
[Who likes the option, that is. He thinks it'd be hilarious and also entirely just desserts for the demons to tear each other apart??]
Well! It's something to keep an eye out for, at least - ways to make it work. I'll let you know if I see or hear anything that might remotely help out, hm?
As always I appreciate it. Our priority right now is going to be tracking down the second demon. Bit of a bummer Muzet didn't get to leave us an obvious clue that we could obsess over for hours before realizing it's obvious.
...unless she did and we really, really missed it.
[But also, like. He doesn't think it's impossible?? Though, speaking of Muzet and cues in general...]
...Clearly they're more than capable of getting away with murder if they don't leave behind any decisive evidence themselves, though. I'm hoping to come up with some sort of sign that can be picked up on if I ever end up being targeted by our dear friends, and I'd like you to be one of the people I share it with, if that's alright. I'm working on something similar in the case of possession, but that one's a bit trickier.
[He doesn't know how much a demon knows about its host... He's operating under the assumption that it's Everything, though, which means he's gotta pull some goddamn Light Yagami shit to warn people if that happens.]
Not a bad idea. Escha, Dick and I were trying to come up with something similar back when we didn't know the demon takes over everything. There still has to be something we can do.
At least if we're the ones being killed, we have a warning because we'll be awake. That means there's time for notes or, like, something. It worked for Izuminokami.
I'd have to check to see if our dear friends can recover any faster from injuries than the average human, but if they can't, I was hoping to set some sort of trap that could target a specific part of the body that I'd be able to warn you about ahead of time. Nonlethal, of course! It would be nice if I could just try to kill it myself, but I don't want any more demons running loose because we murdered their hosts improperly, or any innocent people ending up on the chopping block.
[Zero fuckin mercy.]
Still working out the details, but I should have something for you by Thursday, at least! For possession... [He hums and taps his chin.] I'm assuming they have access to our memories, but I'll double-check that too, just because I'm feeling optimistic! [He is not.] What ideas did you toss around for that?
Like what, a casual stab? [This is said dryly, but it's actually plausible, he thinks.] I don't see why we can't try to kill them ourselves if we had the right tools but there's the biggest problem. If you can think of something, I'll be interested in hearing it. I'll brainstorm myself, too.
[...but he nods.] They have access, I asked. We were thinking of coming up with some kind of code word or something but that was before we realized just how much the demons could take control. All I can think about is...leaving like a written warning or something? A demon would take it away, but if it was in a hiding spot other people would notice it's gone. Or something like that.
Yeah, something like that. Like I said, a demon wouldn't want to be found so wouldn't it clean up after the host to make sure nothing could be done to trace back to the source?
How would that work? If we assume the plan is - say, I tell you I'll leave a note under a bottle in the lounge saying "if this is here, I'm possessed!" and I'm not possessed that week, I obviously couldn't just leave it out there. How would we tell the difference between a demon cleaning up after its host and someone who really just isn't possessed?
No no no, the other way around. Someone not possessed leaving a note or an item or something in an inconspicuous place. If the item's still there, the person isn't possessed. If it's gone, the demon took it.

Depends on how quickly they take control, hm? If it's instantaneous, there won't be any time to write a warning.
