I think it's the best strategy. They seem to want to help but they can't just offer us whatever without something in exchange. It's in their rules of being the hosts or something.

Mm... I would have figured as much. They seem to be bound by their own rules given their frustration at trials. [ it's been a little hard not to notice that ] They certainly do not have it any easier than us, it seems.

It feels like they should but somehow I think they have it worse. I'd be pretty pissed if I had the answers and couldn't share. So...we figure out how to work with them.

It's rather frustrating, isn't it? I only wish it were easier to figure out how to obtain the information without frustration from both sides. [ time to find out if there are 'blink once for yes' loopholes in their rules ]

That's why we keep trying with everything we know how to use. [A pause.] Izuminokami was...always kind of trying to get me to work with a team. So I'm doing my best to make sure people know what our options are. I think he'd want us working together, too.

He's far more used to working within a unit I'd believe. The Shinsengumi were always a tightknit group. [ unlike his team of foolios who can barely get four out of their six to function as a unit ] It would do right to keep a team going to keep up a possible defense against these creatures.

So I've heard. [He remembers a little from elementary school history and general studies on his own, not to mention things Kanesada said. Nevertheless, there's a huff as he shakes his head.]

It's going to be a challenge to get some people to agree, but we can figure it out. We have nothing left to lose.

It's perhaps for the best that only one of their group was here. [ he says this with the utmost fondness but he's also Very Familiar with how the shinsengumi swords are together as a whole ]

I have no doubt they together could have made it happen but perhaps even without the others, this specific group of people will find it better to eventually work together than separate against these demons.

Well you've been making allies of your own, haven't you? Are you finding it easier to talk to people now?

I have. It's still a little odd but there certainly have been reasons to. [ amazing what happens when you're stuck on a cursed ship together ]

The situation's never going to stop being weird, I think. But as long as we find new reasons at least we can keep moving forward. It's...helpful to know everyone a little better now than we initially did.

Mm. Our relationships can only grow and despite what initially brought us all here, I certainly have not minded the outcome.

As much as it pains me to say it, we just have to keep trusting each other. [It's sort of sarcastic, because he doesn't mind trusting people when it happens, but it's still a hard thing to do.] That's what screwed over the last group.

...but I haven't minded the outcome myself either.

It only brings discord when you already face a strong enemy. It's best to regroup together than be taken out without backup. [ battle strategy 101 :'|b

I'd rather not be taken out at all, but yeah, I get your point. [He's about to continue but Tonbo says those words and he suddenly looks a little baffled.]

What? [Oh. Right. Tamamo! That wife! Definitely not someone else!] Oh, yeah. She's...definitely one of the better parts about this place.

I had not expected you to have found a companion like so. [ He......100% thinks they're married btw. ]

I didn't exactly expect it either. We met on the first day and...she kinda made me an offer I couldn't refuse. And I've been getting to know her more and more since then. It's worked out.

I see! How fast. My congratulations to you both then.

Thanks, I guess. I mean it was sort of fast but what else were we supposed to do here, right? It made the most sense for both of us.

[ he's seen his fair share of shotgun relationships over the course of time. occasionally, they even work out. (most of the time it ends up in death but that just seems par for the course for humans anyway.)

I prioritize hers over mine, but I don't plan on telling her that. [There's a grin.] But...she makes me happier than I was when I first got here. It feels familiar to something I've been used to before. But it makes you wonder if other people here are finding the same sort of benefits and relationships with each other.

I suppose I am clearly unused to the idea. For all these years I have spent around humans, I fear there's still so much I don't understand why.
