He'll also just take his bottle of whiskey back now that there's no need for it, screwing the top back on to busy his hands.
This is familiar in terms of, like, media. But there are other parts that are familiar on a more real-world scale like criminals and serial killers and cults and kidnappers. Listening to Dick is a little impressive and a little exhausting all at once, but maybe it'll help Escha to ask questions.]
[ Escha looks extremely upset about this. Who would do bad things??? That's horrible, and she doesn't want to ask more questions about it.
The thing about living in a world recovering from an apocalypse is that everyone pretty much works together. You have to. Sure, some people are mean, or bureaucracy can be. Bad. But... The limits are in a very different place. ]
I... I didn't know... We don't have anything like that where I'm from.
[ whatever makes it so that his world has superheroes-- and thus, supervillains to explain their need for them-- and others don't, dick doesn't know. but as much as he loves the hero thing, wouldn't know what to do outside of it, of course he'd rather they be obsolete some day. ]
I know it sounds bad, and there are a lot of bad people where I'm from... but there's just as many good ones willing to fight against them. That's what's important.
Until some of the good ones get tired of fighting. [It's not even really an argumentative point, but it's just someone who's pushing his luck.] When that happens, another good one shows up to start all over again. But for every bad person, at least two more pop up. A perpetuating cycle that's endless.
[...well anyway.] But people like Dick are good at what they do. Probably why people like the two of you are here in the first place.
[People willing to fight against the bad people, or just people willing to try at all.]
[ ......... Well Junpei has issues. But to be fair, it sounds like Dick and Escha both come from worlds with. Issues. Very different issues, but issues. ]
I don't think I could blame someone for being tired of fighting, if things are like that. If they have to fight other people.
[ dick is very, very still and very quiet for a second. ]
Yeah. Sometimes they get tired. [ isn't he, himself? ] And other times they get murdered, or they sacrifice themselves to save the world. It varies.
[ he pushes himself off the sink and leaves the bathroom abruptly to go in the main room. he's, uh. just pulling his shirt off, hastily switching clothes.
wally had retired, and wally had come back, and wally was dead. that's how it went. and now dick is the one who's tired. dick is the one who'd wanted a break. from something, even if not the hero business-- but instead he's here, and he's-- he's still tired. emotionally compromised.
shouldn't have snapped in front of them. he's already regretting it. ]
[...it's about that moment that Dick gets up and leaves that Junpei, like, clues in that he's being an asshole to someone who a.) didn't need it and b.) has actually been one of the more tolerable people here. He's still of the opinion what he said wasn't wrong, but at the same time...
...well. That could have gone better. As it is, he's going to stay seated where he's at, look at Escha, look at the main room Dick walked into and then get up.]
...go check on him, alright? Tell him to take a break for half an hour before heading out. [It's low enough just for Escha to hear.] I'll come back later. [Sorry to both of them, he's also regretting saying anything and just straight-up leaving the room. Bye.]
[ She can tell that Junpei feels guilty - too much to really get mad at him for being insensitive... Why else would he leave so quickly, and why else would he tell her to check on Dick? But she figures he's right that she should; so that's her priority.
She does murmur to Junpei, quietly, before he leaves: ] You should apologize later.
[ But then it's break-time I guess, and he splits, and she heads over to Dick. ]
[ dick's back on the love seat and changed!! that was fast. He heard Junpei leave, which. god. It's not like the guy had known, and it's not like he said anything Dick hadn't thought before in his darkest hours. Or-- just hadn't heard.
Which is why when Escha comes to check on him he's running a hand through his hair and looking away ]
[ She knows that he's not so much upset about the injury he just got, but it can't be helping. And she doesn't know the specifics of what's on his mind and doesn't want to pry, so... ]
If it were me, I would have been crying already...! [ Does that lighten the mood? Hm. ]
[ It's up to him. She doesn't want to push it. He probably wants to be alone, she figures, and so she takes a step back - she'll head out in a moment unless he asks her to stay.
But before she goes, a little change of subject and a distraction couldn't hurt, right? ]
I was wondering - since you got hurt... If you need any help, please let me know. I could feed you, if you like. [ She says it like that's a normal thing to offer? ]

Dick, then.
[ Although she's still marveling a little... ]
Supervillains, huh...? Worse than just strict bosses?
