[Nikkari will find him in the library tucked in a back corner, curled up on a couch with a book. He looks a little beat, but when Nikkari speaks he looks up and grins slightly.]
Morning. I always figured we'd get a library, but maybe not this soon.
[They sure are. Junpei curls up a little tighter into himself to give Nikkari room, too.]
Well, I'm not really. [He looks at the book again.] But we have nothing else to do here and I thought maybe checking out some of the subjects I can find might help us understand some stuff.
I somehow doubt that sort of information would be served to us so easily. [ he tilts his head curiously, trying to peer at the cover of whatever book junpei's currently holding. ] Have you had any luck?
Nope. [It's a philosophy book that he's flipping through, maybe only thirty pages in.] But I have a lot of time on my hands until Thursday, so...may as well.
[There's also a small stack on the floor.] Do swords read? [Wait.] Sorry, that was insulting. I mean do you guys have books and stuff that you read at your citadel or whatever. Haiku doesn't exactly count.
[ as usual, nikkari takes the "insult" completely in stride, with only a somewhat admonishing laugh to even try and claim otherwise. ]
Junpei-san... you should know better than most that we, in these forms, are functionally human. Unless we state otherwise, you should safely assume that we are capable of whatever you yourself are.
Yeah, yeah I know...[He has enough grace to look sheepish about that, but he peers over the top of the book to look at him then.] You should know better that sometimes I say things without thinking. The books might be getting to me.
It's a book on the concept of presentism...which is a theory that only the present is real. [He looks at the cover in thought.] It's not really one I totally grasp, but at the same time I get it. Only what we are observing right now can be considered "real" because it's what is occurring now instead of a past which might not be right and a future that can't be determined.
[...he should leave this shit to other people, but. Hah.] ...wanna help me pick out something else?
[ the whole concept junpei brings up goes against everything nikkari stands for, even his entire reason for being. it also isn't something he wants to discuss, let alone potentially argue, so when junpei gives him an out— ]
[There's an actual smile and he drops the book unceremoniously on the ground. Bye. He'll get up and hold out a hand to pull Nikkari to his feet as well.]
You pick a genre then. The choices are kinda overwhelming if I stare at the shelves too long.
It's seriously less endearing when you continue to mock me. [It's not, hilariously, or he would have left a while ago. Instead it sort of resonates with him and he bumps his shoulder into Nikkari's as he begins to walk off. Come along, sword.]
Sometimes I think you'd find a way to haunt me anyway even if I tried to pull away. [It's a casual remark, but his arm rotates just a bit to let his fingers brush over Nikkari's hand. He's continuing to walk though, letting Nikkari think whatever he wants.]
If it's really mystery, I might have to leave. [He wouldn't.] Obviously it's satire.
[ the brush doesn't go unnoticed, but it doesn't get commented on, either. like junpei had told him not too long ago, he sort of enjoys this back and forth, this will-we-won't-we dance they've found themselves in. it's fun. ]
You laugh at me plenty. But I don't want your pity points. [He's THINKING.] ...horror, maybe? Or adventure books. Those might be hitting a little close to home though, aren't they?
[ said simply, without any further elaboration. but before junpei can get caught up in that... ]
Jya-jyaaa~n. [ he mimes setting off a party popper. ] Is it any surprise that I'd be drawn to the macabre? Such tales are so intrinsically tied to my very existence, after all. They feel... familiar. Chilling. Comforting.
[A glance back, but he doesn't ask for clarification or elaboration. He seems to be settling on the statement for what it is, pondering for a moment before he rolls his eyes.]
No, actually it makes complete sense. Everyone tends to lean toward what they know and find familiar. Part of being human. [But he's heading further into the library toward a section of horror novels. I don't know if I've ever read a lot of good horror novels anyway.
[ while his body continues to follow junpei, his mind seems to be elsewhere for the time being. if, for some reason, junpei stops at any time, nikkari will bump into him with a little "ah," and a bit of a startle. ]
[? He gives Nikkari a look like he's unsure what to say or why Nikkari's repeating him, but there's a fleeting smile as he wanders. They approach the shelf, but yeah. Junpei stops, Nikkari startles into him, and Junpei blinks as he looks at two white flower hair ornaments resting on a shelf.]
...seem out of place, don't they? [But the tone says he absolutely recognizes them, voice catching in his throat as his hand moves to pick them up. And that's about when the barrier begins to close in on them. Farewell.]

human bodies are weird, he thinks, as he plops down onto the couch, too. ]
Oh? I wouldn't have taken you for the bookish type.

Hahaha... that isn't the only thing you get overwhelmed by if you stare at it for too long.

And what're you implying here?

[ he continues to chuckle to himself as he catches up to junpei, lightly touching a hand to junpei's forearm once they're side-by-side. ]
Getting back to your original point... hm. I wonder... what do you think my favorite genre is?
no subject
If it's really mystery, I might have to leave. [He wouldn't.] Obviously it's satire.
no subject
Wrong on both counts.
no subject
Definitely not romance...drama? Historical fiction? Comedy? [Now he's just being an idiot, please leave him forever.]
no subject
I suppose I could give half a point to comedy? But I won't laugh at just anything, you know.
