I thought it was a little weird that Polly told her so soon. Roles don't usually shift until around the time they meet with the hosts, I think.
[There's another lull of silence. ] I hate that keeping an eye out is our only option because stuff happens and it's usually too late to prevent it. Murders on Thursdays, room break-ins, Polly in a bottle...I'm not sure if there even is a way to avoid these things or not. The hosts still can't tell us much either. Library's useless and has, like, nothing to help us. I don't know.
[Ugh.] Waiting isn't good enough anymore. That's all.
Was it ever? [ dick's been restless (reckless) for weeks now, because he can't handle how little he can actually do, so it's not like he doesn't get it. but. there's nothing they can do about that, is the thing. they're stuck. ]
No. [He's well-aware he's preaching to a choir here, but it still sucks. There's a lingering pause.]
...that night after the first trial when we voted for Polly, Carlos knew he was going to die. He told me that whatever Polly did bound both of them together. "But some things need to happen before we fix this, and I get the feeling this is one of them." He made Beck and I promise just to let it happen instead of trying to stop it. Said he could feel the extra guidance in his head already but he didn't understand what it meant or why.
Maybe I'm just worried that they'll understand too late and it'll be something bad. Like we're just setting it up to be the opposite of what we really want.
[ he listens to junpei quietly as he talks. he'd heard it from beck, but...
if junpei wasn't sitting while taking a shower dick would probably pat him but as it is this is just awkward silence before he admits: ]
You and me both. We've been following the writing on the wall from a group that died, and we still don't even know exactly what happened there. Feels like we're running in blind straight into either disaster or salvation with no way to know which until it happens.
[Fair. But at least he's eventually hauling himself to his feet. He should maybe be less gross.]
Exactly. People want to be optimistic that this is the right way and I'm trying to be optimistic, too, but I don't know if we can be. Maybe we're going to have to just guess right at the last minute but the waiting around part is really pissing me off.
[A silence.] But salvation has to exist, doesn't it?
[ please? dick meant it when he said he would hose him down himself if he didn't wash ]
Yeah. It does. [ he sounds confident in that, at least, though the follow-up is a little bit of a joke: ] I didn't bring down an alien invasion to get beaten by a particularly stubborn set of sex demons.
[...he just sticks his head out of the shower now to give him the most incredulous look.]
...I keep forgetting that you're like this. [JUST. SAYING SHIT ABOUT ALIENS. But back into the water he goes. God where did they even get bath supplies. Whatever!! TBH if Dick wasn't here he would've just straight-up taken a bath but here we are.] Likewise, I didn't jump several histories to live just to die here. Not really my thing.
Isn't that how we've been doing literally everything here? [At least he sounds a little more okay even if he's busy stressing out about the hosts and zombies and everything in between.] I don't think a single person on this ship can count as passive.

[ is he serious? mystery ]
So there you go. Between everyone here, we can out-stubborn our way to victory.
[ he can't like. afford to think otherwise! ha ha!! ]
