[ the exorcism finishes and dick stands there in the circle, staring at where escha was with the dagger still clutched in his hand.
it's only when junpei speaks to him that he lets it go abruptly, stepping out of the circle the way he couldn't earlier.
he doesn't say anything but as steady as his hands (if nothing else) were during the ritual, now there are definite aftershakes. he'll follow, though. he just needs.
[He wants to grab his hands. He wants to take his hands, pull him along, hide him away from everyone that's probably looking for him right now but he knows that's probably not a course of action that'll help either of them.
Instead, he's sticking close and leading him back to their room, letting the quiet of the hall hang around them as he walks. The ride up the elevator is equally silent, but he continues to inch as close as possible without touching him. It's only when he unlocks the room for them and ushers Dick inside that he dares to speak again, closing the door behind them.]
...I'm gonna be selfish and ask you to stay here a while. [If he phrases it at himself being needy, maybe that'll help.]
[ dick's kind of just standing there in the room quietly for a second, humming in agreement. junpei can phrase it however he wants, dick kinda wants to ... vanish for a little. it's as good an excuse as any. but after a bit he -- frowns. ]
[Like, fair? Junpei would also offer to fuck off and give Dick space, and he's half-tempted to say so but before he can open his mouth again Dick points out something obvious.]
What? [He whips around to look, finding that the plant is in fact gone.] Tell me I'm not crazy. It was there last night before we went to the panthouse. Right?
[ the good news is dick has gone from listless to agitated now! is that good. who knows, but it sure is happening as dick goes to where the plant used to be ]
It was. We both saw it. Escha said to--
[ take care of it, and he shakes his head, turning around ]
Yeah, I'm on it. [He doesn't even call Dick on being bossy because he's moving quickly, searching the bed first and then searching the conspiracy wall. He'll also start checking the closet and--]
Shit. [Into the closet he goes, starting to sort through the few things they have.] The shoes are gone, too.
I have no idea. Kagachi? But Kagachi wouldn't break in to take our stuff, that makes even less sense. [He's still throwing stuff around, thinking maybe he just misplaced them when they moved everything.]
Who else did she even really talk to besides us and Logy? Enough to trust with this, I mean.
I don't know. [ it's quiet and powerless, the realization that they didn't know that much about escha in the end, maybe, but he shakes his head-- ] How did they break in to take it in the first place? And why only those two things?
[He's purposefully not thinking about that right now, finally closing up the closet and looking around again just in case. He'll even look under the bed.]
Because they were hers, if I had to guess. But...think it's the same person who came in and bit her? What the fuck was that about?
A role that lets people break into rooms, and they picked ours?
[ he shakes his head ]
They had to have known about the shoes. They wouldn't have come in here for a poisonous plant when there's so many available in the gift shop. So either Escha or Logy must've told someone about them.
We knew where Escha's clamshell was right? She still had it on her? [He's scrubbing the back of his head as he stays on the floor.] I don't get how someone got in unless they had a master key or something else.
...I don't know who else Logy might've told. He seemed to keep to himself, but we have to get those shoes back. I'm willing to bet someone figured something out about them that we haven't.
[...] But if they only came for the shoes, why take the plant, too?
She didn't tell us about giving it away to anyone else. [ dick's-- pacing, for lack of anything else to do right now. ] It has to be a role thing, you're right.
[ but for the plant... ]
... If someone gets hurt with that-- I might not be the only guy on the ship who recognized the plant for what it was. If we assume our break-in role is on the worse side of things...
Dendrocnide moroides, better known as the "suicide plant". One of the most toxic plants in Australia. The stinging hairs on it deliver an extremely potent neurotoxin when touched. The pain from it is excruciating for the first few days, and can recur for months in the affected areas afterwards.
[ so yknow. it's fun. that it was in their room. ]
...how did none of us die. Why did Escha buy it? [What in the fuck.] Makes you wonder if it came with a note or instructions about it because if not, we're probably looking for someone who's from some version of Earth that would know about it.
We're probably also looking for someone who knew to wear gloves or something to transport the thing.
[There's a soft laugh.] Why did I even ask? [That sounds just like her. He doesn't look up from his feet.]
We'll keep an eye out for anyone who has a reaction to the plant itself. If there's nothing, we can assume it's someone who either knows or someone who knows someone who would. That was how we were working with the other poison Aizawa had, too.
[ he sighs himself, and now that they've hit an impasse, he just... slides down against a wall and sits on the floor. on opposite sides of the room from junpei ]
... Yeah. That's about all we can do right now. [ he tilts his head to stare at the ceiling ] Anyone in the profiles who know about poisons besides Illumi?
I don't know if medicine fits anyone but me. [ he hates it, thanks. ] But... plants. WWX knows a few, though I think they're more farm related. Not sure about anyone else.
