Hmm, a little annoying. Give me some idea of sweet or bitter at least. [He's flipping on switches and buttons as it is though. He seems to have a plan here. ]
[Hate that I established lore that he's also that asshole, so it's fine. He's just turning around to do as he do.]
I usually have ideas, but they're not always good ones. [A joke, but he's grabbing a few things such as vanilla, condensed milk, ice, etc.] I kind of missed the phase of holding down a regular job but before I spent my time in bars I hung out in coffee shops. You end up learning enough.
When you put it like that, I can't even make fun of you. [ since dick. obviously doesn't have a regular job. he's looking curious the entire time, even though he's seen others do this. ] Well, I can a little. Did you just watch the baristas while they worked?
Not with that attitude you can't. [Mixing and pouring and measuring...] But yeah, I guess. What else was I supposed to do? I got bored of studying every time I tried so I found other things to look at.
The world really doesn't need another economics major anyway. [So yes, he spent time people watching.] As it turns out, learning to observe and understand people has helped me out a lot more than anything else.
[Not long after, he passes Dick what appears to be a cup of iced vanilla caramel coffee.] Try that.
[ he could stand to sound? slightly less bewildered? but then he gets a coffee and he peers at it openly before putting the straw in his mouth and sipping. he hums in appreciation right after. ]
Okay, I gotta hand it to you. You did learn a lot by observing.
Thank you. [He's also pouring a cup for himself because he's useless, but he rolls his eyes.] You could stand to sound a little less surprised about that reveal though. That's hardly the weirdest thing I've ever told you.
Not that dumb. [He stirs his own straw.] I only dropped out because I needed to find something and the only way to do it was by joining the firm I went to. It just started coming to me naturally after that. I'm quitting whenever we get out of here to do something else.
[ there's a few things dick could say-- he can guess junpei was looking for that girl, or he could say what he's been thinking since yesterday-- "me too"
he doesn't say either of those, though. Instead he just hums, sipping again. ]
Got any plans for what that "something else" is yet?
[His expression is a little grim if not determined as he finally takes a sip. ] It's...pretty much the same thing. Just joining a different organization and going after a different target to stop a nuclear war.
[Sometimes your canon just does this. He sips again and looks at the counter.] But after that, who knows.
Yeah, just a few billion lives. No pressure. [He sounds exhausted because goddamnit can everyone chill? But...there's a slight grin.]
Maybe that's what retirement will be. Quitting my jobs and working in coffee houses where the only real problem of the day is running out of milk. I could get used to that. [He doesn't sound so convinced though if only because he thinks life with Akane will never be quiet like that. He thinks about Dick's own life though and wants to say something about a break. In the end though, he doesn't.]
But being here's forced us to be more self-sufficient anyway. [Shrug.]
[AN OVEREXAGGERATED EYE ROLL and he throws a straw wrapper at him.]
Well you did know how to do your own laundry and you haven't starved to death so that probably counts. [The bare minimum...but it's fine. At least this is a good distraction instead of dead friends.] But you've seen some of the others, haven't you? Definitely a general us.
Swords aside. There are still a lot of things about the ship I don't get like how it's still running and the supply and demand needed to keep up with so many of us for almost four weeks.
But nobody's broken anything important so maybe that's a victory by itself.
Magic? [ dick frowns a bit after he says-- ] Not trying to make it sound like a cop-out, but I know a couple of various sorcerer and magicians team ups that would make this feasible.
Depends on the methods. There are a lot of different kinds of mysticism, and while I'm passably familiar with most of them, in cases like these? I'd usually bring in an expert. Which isn't exactly an option right now.

[ dick is that asshole who pours a shit ton of sugar and cream in coffee and lives off the sugar high just as much as the caffeine. ]

So you procrastinated by people watching? Good thing you didn't end up needing college.
[ is he allowed to joke about that. eh ]

[ just a little nuclear warfare ... dick looks at the cup in his hand before looking back at junpei ]
Maybe after that, you should try taking it esay. You do have a potential career in being a barista.

"Us"? That better be a general us, JT. I was plenty self-sufficient before coming here.

... If it is magic, I don't think it's any kind someone here would be familiar with. They'd have recognized it already.
