[it sounds like the movie theater is currently occupied.
should junpei be approaching, he'll hear two voices - familiar ones. they're singing a song in japanese, and should he enter, he'll find himself watching a recording. it looks like a modern day fancam of a stage, bright lights, and the cheers of the crowd around them. two brothers dance on the stage, their voices intermingling in a perfect duet.
hizamaru races across the stage, backflipping perfectly down the runway, and higekiri chases after him. he turns in perfect pirouettes across the platform up until he catches up. the two of them move in perfect sync with each other, higekiri's leg kicking up perfectly over hizamaru as he ducks. two brothers, laughing as they get a chance to sing and dance together, eyes bright with delight and a perfect understanding of one another.
there's a shadow in the projection room, where higekiri watches the film play.
[He watches from behind for a moment, monitoring what's on the screen and listening to the song. It's not at all surprising to see what this is, or to understand why this is happening now. His steps are slow, but as he reaches Higekiri h frowns lightly.]
Looks like it was fun. [He can't really imagine or relate, but he can at least understand the kind of relationship displayed here. The question is a hard one though, and for a moment he goes quiet.]
...in a way, yes. This is exactly what it means, even if the person isn't gone yet.
I suppose you're right. [Easily agreed because it makes sense, of course, but at the same time he wonders if that's really true.] The worst part, I think, is that you never really get a chance to say anything to those people before they're gone.
[ . . . there's just a soft laugh at that. it lacks the usual bounce in higekiri's tone, as if he has been so thoroughly brought back down to earth. this is where the humans dwell, and this is what the humans feel.
he understands that now.]
At least...
I remembered to tell him I loved him. Though I wonder... should I have said it more?
Should I have said it again and again... Would that have kept the demons away?
[He still doesn't really know how to answer that either, and he frowns lightly as he looks at the screen again.]
I don't know if it would have kept the demons away. But I don't think it was wrong to have said it. Or to say it again anyway. We still don't understand why the demons choose their hosts, but...I'm pretty sure Hizamaru knew how much you cared about him before losing himself.
[ . . . he would love to be sure. higekiri will look back at the screen then - before letting it play. the song continues and he just finds himself sighing. when will he get to sing this duet again?]
... the demon says that my brother is still inside of him, howling and crying.
[he lets out a breath]
I cannot forgive it... for letting my brother suffer so.
We know the demons will say anything to get under our skin. But I don't think any of us would ever blame you for not forgiving it. I don't think even I can forgive it. [A pause.] Hizamaru is a friend, and I'm getting really tired of watching this happen to my friends.
So...if you're chosen tomorrow, I don't expect you to hold back.
...probably from the beginning. [It started with Carlos and it just started getting worse. There's a sympathetic smile though, because this is probably so unfamiliar to Higekiri and Junpei gets how confusing and horrible it is for a normal person.] ...sucks, doesn't it?

This was the disc you got, isn't it?
no subject
We watched it together once I retrieved it.
[he lets the images continue to flash before his eyes - he pauses, on hizamaru's smiling face, like he's trying to remember it.]
... is this what it means to miss someone?

...in a way, yes. This is exactly what it means, even if the person isn't gone yet.

[he disagrees quickly]
A demon wears my brother's face and even if he is trapped inside that body - for now, he is gone.
There is no point to these forms if we are not the ones wielding ourselves.

You've been carrying it all these weeks, haven't you?
